BUT this year already is a bit tough. There haven't been any positive messages from the leaders of my campus and when you combine that with budget cuts and other stresses of starting a new school year it can be hard to remain positive. (People at my campus have been in tears- me included.) So I was thinking I would like to start a monthly linky party around mid-month called "Tell Me Something Good" so that we can all focus on the good things going on in our teaching lives as well as our personal lives. Would y'all want to participate in that? Please leave me a comment and let me know!

I absolutely would - big hugs to you! Sometimes you just need to close your door and rest easy in knowing that you are doing the best you can - which is super awesome!!!!

I think that's a great idea! For the last few years I felt like you do at school. Blogging has changed that- knowing there are teachers out there who love what they do and can't imagine doing anything else. We all need reminders of the good things sometimes. I'd join up! Hang in there.

Love that idea....I know I can get down about my job, it's exhausting and I often feel unappreciated. It's amazing what one kind word can do to lift your spirits. Excellent idea....I would definitely participate!!!

I think that is a wonderful idea! Almost all of us tend to focus more on the negative at one time or another, so it would be nice to read what everybody thinks is RIGHT with the world. Like my mom always says, Pollyanna was on to something. There is always SOMETHING you can find to be GLAD about, even in the most dire circumstances...
ReplyDeleteIt's been so long since I have been around. I miss all your posts and I am sorry things are rough. They are though in my world too. Though our Admin always wants to highlight the good. We always start our meeting with "Celebrations". Something positive we want to celebrate, no matter how small. Maybe that could work your your event.

Sign me up!! My campus is going through a very similar thing. Many of the staff are already down about the school year and people don't seem as excited as they have been in years past. I'm trying my best to stay positive-positive. Good luck!

Hello! I just found your blog on TBA today and now I'm your newest follower. Cheer up, I'm sure things will look up once you start working with your adorable new little ones. My class always has something to cheer me up when they know I'm having a bad day. It's super cute!
ReplyDeleteI really like your "tell me something good" linky idea. I'd totally be up for joining it! "Focus on the Positive" is my mantra this school year!

As a first year teacher, I KNOW that I'm going to need words of encouragement so sign me up for this linky party! But please don't get discouraged or frustrated! Your blog has shown me that you are a fantastic teacher with so much to give to your students! Just remember that :)

Great idea.
So many things in education are changing quickly. Budgets are tight everywhere. Do more with less is the mantra. All that combined is the perfect atmosphere for negativity which is the death sentence for a teacher. I think a focus on the positive would be a great boost!
ReplyDeleteI think it would be great for you to start something positive here AND in your school. Maybe you could encourage co-workers to pick a certain day of the week to give "Post-It Praise" that they put in each other's mailboxes or on their door. Something simple like, "I love the display you have in the hallway! Looks great!" or "Thanks for always being the one to greet me with a smile in the morning!" would really help- and it's simple to do.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to link up to a positive linky party, too :)
Hope things turn around soon. I know for me, things feel cheerier when kids start coming!

LOVE IT! It's easy to get sucked in to negativity. By focusing on the positive we can all stay happier and more effective.
ReplyDeleteSo hard to stay positive Jennifer because the negativity is infectious and the state of education is so disheartening. It's easy to get sucked down into the pit. Hang in there and surround yourself with positive people and focus on the happy stuff! Love the idea too :)
