What was going on today?!

Ridiculous. I don't know what was going on today, but the class I had today was not MY classroom of first graders. It took us AN HOUR to do a simple cut and paste activity. I walked through each step, used the doc camera, they repeated instructions, I walked around and showed an example, and I monitored. I had five students complete this simple cut and paste incorrectly. Not like one minor mistake- it was like- WHAT?! I don't even know what went on with their work.  Seriously folks, an hour for cut and paste?! So then I went through the other reasons- full moon? Nope, we're studying the moon and it's not a full moon until the 12th. (Next Monday! YIKES) Weather change? Maybe we'd be getting rain in Austin- we sure need the help putting out the wildfires. NOPE. Sunny and 90 something tomorrow. The silver lining: tomorrow is Friday and I can wear jeans! Anyone else have a day like mine?

  3. Oh my goodness!! I am totally there with you! For some reason, I did not notice I had planned FOUR cut/glue activities throughout this day - math, phonics, writing, comprehension. Whew! It turned out I had to cut one of them short b/c my kids were ca-razy!!

Oh well... I'll know better for next time! I hope tomorrow your sweet littles are back in your room ;)

  8. That was me last week. My kids were MUCH better this week. Although here is a story to cheer you up. Your day can't be as bad as this.

Last year I had a particularly difficult group of Kindergarten ELL level 1's. Basically little to NO English. Everything we did was a struggle, but we were getting through it. That is my job right, I am an ELL teacher.

One day we were cutting & pasting and after modeling on the doc cam, and repeating SEVERAL times and asking questions for understanding we got to work. I walked them through the procedures one by one and at the end of the activity when I collected the papers and was READY to send them back to their Gen Ed teachers I notice one of my little fellows has glued this letters to the DESK!

I about had a conniption. hope that made you laugh.

  10. My Mondays are always like that!! They must go crazy at their houses over the weekend because when they come in on Monday it is ridiculous! I think I've said on all 3 Mondays so far - "First and second graders, I do not know what is going on, but I am so confused because you are being so loud and not following directions!!!!" Thursdays and Fridays are always the best days... I guess they're finally back into the routine before it's time for the weekend, haha.
