What makes you happy?

Ok, after my Monday post about how my kids were back on track and lovely angels something happened. Perhaps it was something in the air? I have no idea but several kids were REALLY mean to each other and it ruined our whole day.  One child told another child that his dog didn't go to Heaven. Then one child had a teeny tiny invisible scratch on their knuckle. They wanted a band-aid and I said no because they weren't bleeding. He told me I was the meanest teacher ever. (Give me a break!)
And one child told another child they were a loser because they missed words on the spelling pre-test. This child ALSO missed words on the pretest.

Tears. Drama. Frustration. Cranky teacher and cranky kids.

So tomorrow I'm passing out these little notes as my kiddos walk through the door. I thought we needed a little extra something. Students will draw a picture of one thing that makes them happy. We'll share what makes us happy before our calendar time. Then we'll be starting our day on a really happy and positive note!

  4. Ok I might be laughing just a little. I know it is not fun when your students are mean to each other but I love reading your elementary drama.... it is a nice reprieve from JH drama...Best luck for good wishes and positive thoughts today!!

  5. What a great idea! My kiddos are in that funk too right now and we are going over the book "Have you Filled a Bucket Today?", which is helping a little bit more! Good Luck I feel like a lot of teachers are having that problem right now!

  6. OMG Tis the season! We are right there with ya and we are using Valentine's Day big time to talk about caring about each other. They're like brothers and sisters right now! Hopefully the 4 day weekend will do them (and us) some good!
*ps we also have no bandaids for our friends who have their microscopic cut on their finger that keeps them from doing any of their work! No blood-No band aid!!!

    1. Thanks Karen! They were sweet angels again today. Not sure if it had to do with the notes or not, but hey! I'll take it!

  8. Sorry your kids were off. It is tough when that happens. I cracked up when I read that you didn't let the kid have a band-aid cause he wasn't bleeding. I say the same thing about 400 times a day! Why do kids always want/think they need band-aids for invisible injuries!?! I guess they just want a little extra attention.

Anyways, hope the happiness sharing helped bring your kiddos back on track. Thanks for the freebie!
